Anthropic Projects First-Ever Operating Profit — $10.9 Billion in Q2 2026
Anthropic shared internal financial projections with investors ahead of a new funding round: $10.9 billion in Q2 2026 revenue, up 130% from the $4.8 billion it reported in Q1.
The projected operating profit: $559 million. That would be the first operating profit in the company’s history.
The figures were first reported by the Wall Street Journal on May 20, 2026.
What Is Driving the Growth
Enterprise demand. Businesses are adopting Claude at a pace that accelerated sharply in early 2026, with particular traction in two areas: coding assistance and cybersecurity. These are high-value, high-volume use cases where Claude’s performance on complex, long-context tasks gives it a measurable edge.
The Caveat
Anthropic noted that sustaining profitability through the rest of 2026 may be difficult. The company has significant scheduled compute costs — including a $1.25 billion per month payment to SpaceX for GPU access through May 2029. Revenue growth has to keep outpacing those infrastructure costs to stay in the black.
The Bigger Picture
Anthropic went from $4.8 billion to $10.9 billion in quarterly revenue in three months. That growth rate, if it holds, positions the company for an annual revenue run rate above $40 billion by year-end.
For comparison: OpenAI’s last reported annualized revenue figure was approximately $11.6 billion. The gap between the two companies is narrowing faster than most industry observers expected.
